About Us


          The Alliance of Government Workers in the Water Sector (AGWWAS) is an aggrupation of government workers’ union/association in the different water sector in the country who are determined to fight and defend their democratic rights  faced with the inevitable privatization of the water districts which in effect would result to the loss of their security of tenure and the hard-earned Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA),  the workers are left with no alternatives but to strengthen their ranks and forge unity.  As of year 2000, AGWWAS affiliates had reached 18 Water Districts employees’ union/association with total membership of 2,864.

          AGWWAS was established on the 8th day of April 1994 and remains vanguard of the struggle to protect their statutory rights and the upliftment of their economic well-being through the unhampered exercise of their basic rights – the rights to security of tenure and the right to organize as mandated in the Philippine Constitution.

          Apparently,  AGWWAS was formed to consolidate the water sector workers to expose to the broadest ranks of the Filipino people the need to oppose and scrap the scheme of privatization,  the anti-workers/people government policies.

OBJECTIVES

          In order to sustain such undertaking, the objectives of AGWWAS are as follows:

  1. To provide of venue in the discussion of issues and concern affecting government employees in the water sector concerning economic and democratic rights.
  2. To uphold and defend the inherent and fundamental rights of government employees in the water sector, including the right to organize unions in the workplace,  engage in concerted activities an participate in policy making in the bureaucracy.
  3. To promote the professional growth of government employees in the Water Sector.
  4. To improve the quality of service to the people and act as the people’s watchdog against irregularities in government.
  5. To develop alliance with other associations and movements to foster cooperation and unity for the cause of the public sector in particular and the people in general.
